BRUSSELS, Belgium – Two new and excited faces are in the Mexico camp this week.

Midfielders Uriel Antuna and Omar Govea were tabbed by head coach Juan Carlos Osorio for international friendlies at Belgium (November 10) and Poland (November 13).

For Antuna, the impact of the call-up – and the chance to play alongside his childhood heroes – is still sinking in.

“It’s been a dream since I was a boy to be with the quality of players like Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela, Hirving Lozano, all of them,” said the 20-year-old, who is playing on loan at Dutch side Groningen after signing with Manchester City from Santos in July. “I only saw myself playing with them on Playstation, but now I’m very happy to be here.

“It is an honor to be here. Whether on the bench or on the field, I am going to be there when they need me. Being here is an unforgettable experience.”

Govea, an attacking midfielder, is enjoying a stellar season with Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron, where he plays on-loan from Portuguese club Porto. After starting all 14 league matches and scoring three goals, Govea is thankful to have Osorio’s support.

“I spoke with coach Juan Carlos Osorio, he welcomed me, he asked that I do what I’m doing with my team, that I do it well, and that I do it with confidence,” he said. “The truth is that I feel very good because he trusted in me and, like that, I can do things with peace of mind.”

The 21-year-old expects to learn much from his time with the Tricolor.

“I take with me the experience that is going to serve me a lot and I will continue working to have more opportunities,” finished Govea. “This is something that I did not expect at this moment and, of course, I’m happy for being part of the team.”
