SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rica will face host England in a pre-World Cup friendly on June 7, 2018, the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol announced Wednesday.

It will be the second-ever meeting between the sides, following up on their group-stage encounter in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which ended in 0-0 draw.

The Ticos will use the match as preparation for their Group E rivals at Russia 2018: Serbia (June 17), Brazil (June 22) and Switzerland (June 27).

"England is a benchmark, has a good rhythm and we are looking for national teams that resemble the football we will face in the World Cup” said Costa Rica head coach Oscar Ramirez. “This team has the characteristics of Serbia and Switzerland.”

Ramirez also stated that his squad will convene for a minicamp on March 19 in anticipation of playing two friendlies in Europe later that month.
