    Futsal: Group B Recap (Aug. 21, 2017)

    TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Habana (Cuba) and Grupo Line Futsal (Costa Rica) opened Group B play in the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship with wins on Monday at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazan

    Here’s a look at the action:

    Sidekicks (Mexico) 4, Habana (Cuba) 7

    Habana got two-goal performances from Andy Baquero and Sandy Dominguez to earn a 7-4 win over Sidekicks in the opening match of the 2017 CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship on Monday at the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional Francisco Morazan.

    Sidekicks had a 3-1 lead with slightly more than 14 minutes remaining in the match, only for Habana to explode for six of the last seven goals.  Luis Magaña gave Sidekicks that two-goal advantage, but Habana leveled at 3-3 thanks to strikes from Dagoberto Quezada (30’) and Andy Baquero (32’).

    Habana went ahead for good, 5-4, with 1:10 left on clock, when Dominguez struck for the first of his two goals.  

    Baquero netted his first goal the sixth minute of the first half, while Eder Giorgana tallied a brace (2’, 38’) for Sidekicks.


    Grupo Line Futsal (Costa Rica) 8, Sporting Outlaws FC (Canada) 3

    Juan Cordero scored three goals and Grupo Line Futsal outdistanced Sporting Outlaws FC, 8-3.  After Grupo Line took a 2-1, Cordero struck for three consecutive goals (25’, 28, 30’), extending the advantage to four goals.

    Sporting Outlaws was led by a brace from Oussama Laguel, who made it 1-1 (9’) and 5-2 (36’).

    Diego Zuñiga (6’, 36’) and Alejandro Paniagua (39’, 40’) also turned in two-goal performances fro Grupo Line.

    Cordero, Zuñiga and Paniagua all competed for Costa Rica in the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup.  Paniagua notced a team-best three goals in Colombia as the Ticos reached the Round of 16.


    Next Up in Group B on Tuesday (all times local): Sporting Outlaws FC meets Sidekicks (12:30 p.m.), while Habana squares off against Grupo Line Futsal (5:30 p.m.).
