Leadership role at Club Tijuana suits Aguilar

TIJUANA, Mexico – The 2018 Liga MX Clausura is one game old for Club Tijuana. And a new -- but familiar face -- is wearing the captain’s armband.

In his second stint with the club, defender Pablo Aguilar -- who arrived in between seasons from Club America – has earned the leadership role.

“I feel very proud and very happy,” said the 30-year-old in a press conference Tuesday. “It is double the responsibility for one. I want to thank coach Diego Cocca, the club’s directors and my teammates.”

Since the Xolos will compete in the 2018 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, Aguilar’s leadership is considered critical, thanks in large part to him winning it twice with Club America.

On Friday, in its first home match of the campaign, Club Tijuana will face Necaxa. Aguilar can’t wait to get back on the Estadio Caliente field.

“I feel very happy and excited to be with our fans, who are with us at every moment,” he finished. “I’ve been imagining it. Hopefully, it all ends with a good result.”
