HEREDIA, Costa Rica -- Forward Víctor Nuñez announced Thursday that although he won’t play for Herediano in the 2018 Costa Rican Clausura, he does not plan to retire.

The 37-year-old, who appeared in seven matches for the Florenses during the 2017 Invierno, is the Costa Rican league’s all-time scoring leader with 244 goals.

“"Everything was already talked about for me to retire this tournament (2017 Invierno), but I think I can give a little more,” said Nuñez. “I spoke with Herediano’s leadership and they understood it. When I finish playing, my farewell match will be here. I do not know if it will be in six months or a year.

"The last tournament was difficult to play here. With work, I can play more in another team. I thank Herediano for giving me support in the decision I am making. The idea is to return to Herediano in order to work with the institution.”

Nuñez made his professional debut with Saprissa in 1999 and has also played for Costa Rican sides Limonense, Santa Barbara, Alajuelense, Cartagines, Liberia Mia and Santos de Guapiles, as well as Real España in Honduras.

He has four career goals in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League (SCCL) – all for Herediano -- including two in a 4-2 win at Isidro Metapan on September 18, 2014.

Herediano will open its 2018 SCCL schedule by hosting Mexican champion Tigres in the Round of 16 on February 20.
