Perrier, Jamaica turn attention to Caribbean U-17 women’s qualifying

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Thanks to the experience gained from losses to visiting Costa Rica in a pair of recent friendlies, Jamaica captain Monique Perrier has identified items to address ahead of the resumption of Caribbean qualifying for the 2018 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship.

“I believe we create a lot of chances as a team, so finishing and scoring goals will be the big thing for us,” she told CONCACAF.com.  “But an area moving forward that I think we can improve on is holding possession of the football.  I think if we can do that we’ll then definitely we have a chance to impress even at the CONCACAF level if we qualify from the [Caribbean].”

Up next for the Reggae Girlz is a trip to Haiti for Caribbean, final-round matches against Group F rivals Bermuda (October 18) and Trinidad & Tobago (October 20).  The champion, runner-up and winner of the third place match will advance to the CONCACAF event.

Perrier is eager to put to use the answers learned from the Costa Rica setbacks.

“In the Caribbean, we are one of the strongest teams,” finished the forward/midfielder, who has three goals in two qualifiers.  “We want to defend our [Caribbean] U-17 title and that will be our aim later this month.  And by doing that, it would help us to qualify for the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship for next year.

“The recent games we had against Costa Rica were stern tests for us and it will help us grow in chemistry and unity, so our girls can develop into better players and improve.”
